The turnstiles of Scottish football

By

Perhaps one of the most distinctive noises in football is the clunking, clacking of the turnstile. It’s the time-honoured soundtrack to our national game, with the build-up to a match, every match, set to its sound.

Of course, they’re ugly things. In fact, there’s something to be said about the tone they set for the treatment of fans, not too dissimilar from what you might find at a cattle market. Yet, there remains a charm to them.

In Scotland, there are modern turnstiles with electronic ticket readers, there are turnstiles in the modern traditional mould, complete with local chatterbox operator. Somewhat reflective of our game, there’s a great variety. These are the turnstiles of Scottish football.
